The service in client-server architecture

The term service used in the context of client-server architecture refers to the abstraction of a resource. The resource could be of any type and based on the one provided by the server (service); the server is named accordingly. For example, if the server provides web pages, it is called a web server, and if the server provides files, it is called a file server, and so on.
