Part III of this book covers home security–related topics. Chapter 11 solves
a problem I’ve always struggled with—why can I unlock my car remotely,
but not my house? You’ll get the opportunity to break apart some expen-
sive electronic equipment and do some soldering in order to unlock your
door with a keychain remote. Your computer will know when you get home
and can turn on some lights, or even start playing your favorite music. In
Chapter 12, you’ll use inexpensive wireless cameras to monitor multiple
locations around your home from across the Internet. In Chapter 13, you’ll
build your own completely customizable home security system, with
motion detectors, video cameras, off-site backups (in case a thief steals your
computer), and alarm notifications sent to your mobile phone or email.
