So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Chapter 7, Build a Windows-Based Home Theater PC
• Gaming front-end for use with MAME, NES, SNES, and many other
emulators as well as PC games.
• Integrated weather information display.
• Integrated music library with the ability to rip or play CDs with CDDB
support. (TiVo requires a separate computer and Home Media Option
for this.)
• Integrated photo library with support for downloading directly from
your camera. (TiVo requires a separate computer and Home Media
Option for this as well.)
• Ability to Pause/Fast Forward/Rewind live and recorded television
shows.
All this is not to say that TiVo isn’t a great product. In fact, both my coau-
thor and I have one and would recommend them to anyone. However, all
but the last four of the features in this list are not available with TiVo.
This chapter begins with a guide for building a personal computer from
scratch, including pointers on how to select each component from the many
options available in the marketplace. From there we’ll take on the task of
turning it into a full-fledged home theater PC with Windows XP as the base
operating system.
Be prepared to dig in up to your elbows in this project. If your hardware
varies at all from what’s listed in Exhibit A, it’s possible that some things
won’t work with your configuration. However, lots of people have gotten
this project to work
