Chapter 7, Build a Windows-Based Home Theater PC

Now it’s time to scan these folders for ROMs.

1. Choose Rom Scan from the Scan menu to begin.

You’ll see the ROM Scanner screen shown in

Figure

7-17.

2. Select All Systems and click Scan Now. .My Games

will scan the folders you specified for ROM files and

show you the complete list when it’s done.

Next, you’ll grab some images from the Internet to use

with the ROMs found by .My Games. Start by choos-

ing Images | Web | Selected Games W/O Images from

the Scan menu. .My Games will go to http://www.

vgmuseum.com and grab a picture for each of the games.

If it encounters multiple possibilities or if the names

don’t quite match, you will see a window asking you

which to use, as shown in Figure

7-18. If the title isn’t enough to help

you decide, click View to display the

pictures directly from vgmuseum.

com. When you’ve picked the right

one, click Select to proceed to the

next one. This could take a while if

you have a lot of games and a slow

Internet connection.

Once you’ve gathered your list of ROMs and images, it’s time to fine-tune

them. Many of the games will have downloaded multiple images to choose

from. I prefer the in-game images, as the title screens or box cover-art of

the games often mean less to me than the screenshots. You can select the
