Part 1 of this book eases you into home modding. In Chapter 1, you’ll learn
how to add a motion detector to a light inside your house. It’s an easy mod
that introduces you to X10 and shows you how to go about replacing light
switches in your home. In Chapter 2, you’ll take it a step further by auto-
mating your porch light. You’ll use your experience from Chapter 1 and
learn how to control your lights from your Linux or Windows computer.
Chapter 3 will be your favorite project when traveling, because you’ll use
inexpensive wireless cameras to monitor your pet across the Internet. In
Chapter 4, you’ll connect your computer to inexpensive wireless speakers,
and have it read you the current outdoor temperature before you even get
out of bed in the morning.
