17. At the “Pick an account type” page, click Limited. Click Next.
18. Now, click the SecurityUpload account, and then click “Create a
password.” Type the password in both fields, and then click Create
Password.
Then, have the friend open a port in their router/firewall. If their firewall
supports it and you have a stable IP address, they can filter incoming FTP
requests so that they are allowed only from your IP address. For more
information about opening ports in a firewall, refer to the “Video Transfer”
phase of Chapter 12.
If you don’t have any friends who can provide off-site storage, you can use an
online storage provider. A quick Google for “online storage” turns up several
options. For example, XDrive (http://www.xdrive.com) charges $10 a month for
500MB of storage, and comes with a better service level agreement (SLA) than
most friends will be willing to provide to you.
Now you have a place where you can upload your video. Next, you need a
script that will connect to your friend’s FTP server, negotiate authentica-
tion, upload the file, and then disconnect. We could do this with a batch
file, because every version of Windows that I can remember included the
