Now launch myHTPC from the

Start menu—a screen like Figure

7-9 will appear. The first thing you’ll

notice is that the interface is clean

and simple. The second thing you’ll

notice is there’s no way to watch

and record television. The nice thing

about myHTPC is that it’s really just

a shell that you can extend rather

easily. Let’s begin by getting televi-

sion integrated.

The Services Layer

Now that you’ve got your user inter-

face in place, you need to establish

the underlying services that will be

accessed through it. In most cases,

each new service will require some

configuration changes to the front-

end, so in some ways the User Interface layer continues to be developed as

you add services. We’ll be using a program called myHTPC Configure to

tie everything together.

1. Add the TV tuning service

We’re going to begin with the TV tuner because that’s the most exciting

part.

Install WinTV-PVR drivers and software

Before you begin, you’ll need to download some drivers for the TV tuner

card. Go to http://www.shspvr.com/pvr2_drv-apps.html, get the Hauppauge

WinTV-PVR 250/350 Base CD Install Drivers, and extract the contents to

C:\Windows\temp\pvr-250.

The instructions here assume that you’ve purchased and installed the Hauppauge

PVR-250 (the PVR-350 will work also). ...
