5. Understand and hack the script
A big chunk of this script is the configuration of about a dozen different
variables. Modify the variables in Table 13-1 to specify the house and unit
codes you used to implement the sensors and alarms in your house.
Table 13-1. SecurityMonitor.pl variables
Variable name Description
$alert_email
The email address to send alert messages to. If you wish to send to multiple emails, separate the list
with semicolons. For example, you would use:
$alert_email='alerts@northrup.org; alerts@thefaulkners.org';
$smtp_server
The IP address of your SMTP server. This should exactly match the IP address you have configured as
the SMTP server in your email client.
$audible_unit
The unit code of the audible alarm (the Powerhorn in this project).
$audible_hc
The house code of the audible alarm.
$speaker_unit
If you are using the voice alerting feature, the unit code of the X10 appliance interface controlling the
power to the remote speakers and the wireless transmitter and receiver.
$speaker_hc
The house code of the remote speakers.
$sensor_hc
The house code of all the sensors.
$light_hc
The house code of all the lights
$camera_hc
The house code of all the cameras.
$video_path
The path in which to save the video files.
$virtual_vcr_path
The path to the Virtual VCR executable file.
