La parte del mio lavoro di architetto capo consiste nel rivedere e approvare le architetture di sistema. Quando chiedo ai team di mostrarmi la "loro architettura", spesso non considero quello che ricevo un documento di architettura. La loro controdomanda "cosa ti aspetti?" non è così facile da rispondere: nonostante le numerose definizioni formali, non è immediatamente chiaro cosa sia l'architettura o se un documento rappresenti davvero un'architettura. Troppo spesso dobbiamo ricorrere al test "lo riconosco quando lo vedo", notoriamente applicato da un giudice della Corte Suprema degli Stati Uniti al materiale osceno.1 Speriamo che identificare l'architettura sia un compito più nobile di quello di identificare il materiale osceno, quindi cerchiamo di impegnarci un po' di più.
