PKT members must be scientists rigorously confirming every action by using

the PDCA cycle. All changes must be based on observation and measure-

ment. At Toyota I came to understand a peculiar thing: we do not teach the

scientific method well in school. Indeed, I have since realized that at Toyota

the intimate understanding of the scientific method at each level is perhaps

the company’s greatest strength.

Role of the Supervisor

There is a Toyota saying that “The supervisor is almighty.” Indeed, the

supervisor is arguably the key to Lean success.
