Heijunka Box

This is a production-scheduling tool that tells us visually when, what, and how

many to build. The production scheduler usually loads the heijunka box with

withdrawal kanbans based on that day’s order. In a type A pull system the

rows and columns of the heijunka box (shown in Figure5.8) correspond to the

◾ Number of products the plant or section makes (rows)

◾ Takt time or pitch

In a type B pull system, the heijunka box usually has only one row

and is used primarily to sequence production based on component parts

required. Type C systems use both type A and B heijunka boxes.
