The Missing Manual series is a joint venture between Pogue Press (the dream team introduced on these pages) and O'Reilly Media (a dream publishing partner).

The book in your hands has been the bestselling Mac book since 2002, and for that I'm grateful. But that success only intensifies the pressure for the next edition to be even better. For that reason, I've relied upon more hand-picked editors, expert contributors, and "beta readers" this time than ever before. Each collaborator contributed fantastic amounts of new insight, corrections, and suggestions—and they've made this book, in my opinion, by far the best edition yet.

These guardian angels include Dennis Cohen, Adam Goldstein, and Chris Stone (tech editors in various capacities); Teresa Noelle Roberts (copy editing); Caroline Savello (layout help); Shawn King (geeky QuickTime stuff), and Sohaila Abdulali, John Cacciatore, Stephanie English, and Sada Preisch (proofreading). They build on the contributions made in previous editions by Nan Barber, Bill Briggs, and Apple's Ken Bereskin, Mike Shebanek, and Anuj Nayar.

Lesa Snider reshot hundreds of illustrations for this new edition, cutting down the massiveness of this project by half. She also gave the book a thorough beta read, and I couldn't have done the book without her (at least not in this century).

Thanks to David Rogelberg for believing in the idea, and above all, to Jennifer, Kelly, Tia, and Jeffrey, who make these books—and everything else—possible.
