What Exactly Is Creativity?
Creativity is the production of novel and useful ideas—the ability to form new concepts using existing knowledge. A creative act is original and valuable.
Measuring Creativity
To be considered creative, an idea must be highly original and useful. The last part is the challenge—many people can come up with totally bizarre but useless ideas. The key is for these ideas to be valuable. One common way of evaluating the creativity of a team's ideas is via three indices: Fluency, flexibility, and originality (Guilford, 1959, 1967).
