We've talked a few times in the book about how it's important to limit the number of customizations that you have in your software. Customizations require the work of designing the customization, writing the code, developing the test plan, testing it, writing documentation for it, training it, and maintaining it. Some amount of customization is unavoidable, but, in this chapter, we want to talk about some of the ways that you can minimize it by using the “out-of-the-box” software. We also talk about how you can minimize the cost of customizations by writing clear requirements.
