It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Restricting exposure
Memcached doesn't have many security features built in. One measure involves exposing memcached access within the required boundaries. If your application server needs to talk to memcached, it only allows memcached to be accessed from that server with the help of system firewall rules, such as IP Tables or similar techniques.
