Whew. This is better. The letter spacing values that any good page layout application applies to a typeface are based on the values the designer built into the font. These are explained on the following pages.
Word processing applications generally don’t use the kerning pairs (see the next page) to fit the letterforms together nicely. This is the biggest reason why you can always glance at a printed page from a word processer and instantly tell it came from a word processor and not a page layout application.
