WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR “SHORT LIST” OF GRANTMAKERS
For nonprofit agencies that are just beginning to seek grants, the objective is to develop a realistic and manageable list of potential grantmakers. As I’ve already noted, a list of one hundred or more names is probably neither. A more useful list will probably be composed of a dozen or two names. Please keep in mind that this is just to give you a rough idea of what you’re striving to develop. If you uncover thirty-five honest-to-goodness prospective funders, that’s terrific. And if you identify only six grantmakers, that’s okay too. It’s not the quantity as much as it is the quality that matters. You want to find the best possible, most likely grant-funding sources that you can.
