BEYOND NONPROFITS

Some folks in the nonprofit field view grantwriting as a technical skill. They are partially correct. Certain aspects of grantwriting require technical proficiency. Designing and drafting the goals and objectives section of a proposal narrative come to mind. In large measure, government grantseeking does too. Yet grantwriting is also an art, as I believe I have demonstrated throughout this book. If grantwriting were purely technical, then it might be difficult for a grantwriter in the nonprofit field to transfer his or her skills. But it is not, and the skills are readily transferable to other forms of fundraising and to jobs outside the nonprofit field.
