EPROMs are ‘Erasable and Programmable’ – their contents can be erased by exposing them to
ultraviolet radiation. Such ROMs have a window through which UV light penetrates the chip.

is is ‘Electrically Erasable’ PROM, and erasure can be done while the chip is on the circuit
board. e predominant feature of EEPROM is that the programmer can change the data
embedded on the memory one byte at a time, giving him more control on how he enters the
data. However, this method takes a very long time especially when erasing all the data in it.
