す。終了処理が正しく行われないと、次回の起動時にエラーが発生するこ
とがあります。特に落雷などによる停電の場合は、ハードウェアに想定以
上の負荷がかかり、故障する可能性が高まります。
そこで、停電対策としてよく使われるのが（）で
す。UPSを使うと、停電によって電源の供給がストップしても、バッテリ
ーから電源を供給できます（図6-36）。その間に正しい手順で終了処理を
行うことで、問題が発生する可能性を減らせます。
ただし、一般的なUPSの場合、電源の供給時間は長くても15 分程度で
す。電源が供給されている間に、正しい手順で終了しなければなりませ
ん。そこで、UPSに接続されている機器を自動的に終了してくれる装置が
あわせて提供されていることもあります。
停電時だけでなく、なんらかのトラブルに向けて代替手段を用意して
おくことは、ビジネスにおいて重要です。ネットワークがつながらない
とき、サーバが故障したとき、ディスクが故障したとき、アプリケーショ
ンに不具合が発生したときなど、代替手段がないと業務が停止してしまい
ます。
バックアップとなる手段を用意しておくことはと呼ばれます。そ
のシステムの重要度や、復旧までの時間とコストのバランスを考慮した、
さまざまな二重化手段があります。
