2.6. Orthoimage production
Remote sensing imagery can accurately represent the surface scenery, and it is more intuitive than a topographical map. However, aerial and satellite images are in center or multicenter projections, and the images have geometric distortions caused by image incline and terrain relief. Consequently, these images are not a simple deflation of the surface scenery, and they are not completely similar with the surface scenery. Therefore, in actual applications, remote sensing imagery should usually be rectified into an orthoimage in an orthographic projection. This procedure is called orthoimage production.
