Ideal Approaches

When someone complains about their job, often the complaint comes from an ongoing or repeating aspect of the job that the person doesn't like. It could be because the task is mundane. Or maybe the task was inappropriately assigned to the person in the first place. My father taught me that when you face a situation like this as a manager, you should ask the worker, “If you could picture an ideal situation with your work, what would it be?” In game audio, a composer may wish to fix a problem in a particular piece of music, but the real problem could lie in the composer's role on the game team, or the actual process of creating music for the game.
