The training that teachers receive can also significantly aect the quality of education.
Most primary school teachers have had some form of training. In low and medium
human development countries an average of 76% of teachers are trained to teach, but
there are wide variations. In four countries fewer than 30% of teachers are trained:
Madagascar (15%), Kyrgyzstan (21%), Sao Tome and Principe (27%) and Vanuatu
(28%). The availability of communications technologies also has implications for the
quality of education. But modernizing schools requires substantial investments, a
challenge in most developing regions.
