SEVENDepth of Field

 

 

UDERSTANDING depth of field is one of the most important parts of the photographic process. Becoming familiar with how the aperture, magnification and the focal length of a lens all interact with each other is essential in photography as a whole; not just in close-up. In general, photography depth of field is normally defined as approximately one-third in front of the plane of focus and two-thirds beyond it. However, in macro the zone of sharpness is more evenly matched. In theory, true focus is only achievable on a single plane; at the point on which the lens is focused. The area either side of the point of focus is still relatively sharp. This range, or zone is defined as the depth of field.
