Opening a New Style in SketchUp

Once you've saved your new style, complete with those custom sketchy edges, open the file in SketchUp. The first step is to find out where SketchUp stores .style files on your computer. You find this tidbit of information in your SketchUp Preferences (Figure 15-9). On a PC, choose Window → Preferences. On a Mac, choose SketchUp → Preferences. When the System Preferences window opens, click Files in the list at left. The window displays a list of the types of files that SketchUp uses. These files store SketchUp documents, components, materials, and styles. The text boxes with the File Folder paths are a little bit short, so you may need to drag in the text boxes to see the entire name. If you want to designate a new folder to hold a particular type of file, click the folder icon at right. A "Browse for folder" window opens. Navigate to the new folder and click OK. That new location appears in the File Folder path.

SketchUp expects to find certain types of files in specific folders. Open the System Preferences window, and you see the complete list of file types and the File Folder path to locate them. Want to make changes? Just click the folder icon and designate a new folder.
