When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Designing for reliability at the gateway
As you recall, in our IoT architecture we have sensors in Tier 1, a gateway in Tier 2, and the cloud in Tier 3. Essentially, sensors at the edge gather the equipment parameters and stream the data through the edge gateway to the cloud system that stores data and analyzes the data, and eventually presents the data back to humans for taking actions, as shown in the following diagram. This architecture is very robust and scaleless but not reliable due to network latency and bandwidth constraints. In addition, the edge gateway has very little compute capability since its primary responsibility is to gather data and provide security and connectivity to sensors.
