In traditional systems, the identity of the user connecting to a service or application needs to be defined and stored in order to ensure proper authentication and access control. However, in IoT systems, the identity of things needs to be defined and managed. This has to be augmented with defining and managing the relationships between the connected devices, as this is the essence of IoT. This not only adds value from a security perspective, but it also enhances user experience (by ensuring proper usage of assets) and effective asset management that leads to inventory-based cost savings, as well as proper servicing of those assets.
