The output voltage of the above rectier is not a smooth dc. The term ripple means
periodic rise and fall in dc voltage or current output of the rectier circuit. Ripples
can be ltered out by either capacitor or inductor, or both in some combinations.
Even then, small rises and falls—exponential in theory but practically linear over
a small range—remain superimposed on the average dc output voltage or current. ...
