Appendix A. Installing and Upgrading iWork
Installing iWork ’09 on your Mac is a fairly straightforward process—the automated installer that comes with iWork takes care of tucking all the files into their proper locations on your hard drive.
To use iWork ’09, you need a Macintosh with a 500 MHz or faster Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 processor. Your Mac needs at least 512 MB of RAM (but a more functional minimum is 1 GB—more is always better) and 32 MB of video memory. You also need Mac OS X version 10.4.11 or Mac OS X version 10.5.6 or later, with QuickTime 7.5.5 installed.
Tip
To find out your computer’s processor, memory, and Mac OS X version, choose

The iWork installation consumes 1.2 GB of hard drive space. Be sure your hard drive has room for iWork and still has plenty of extra space left over—not only for the iWork documents you’ll be creating, but also because operating a hard drive at near-capacity invites trouble. You should always have at least 5GB of free space on your hard drive.
iWork packages contain a DVD installation disc, so you’ll also need a computer with a DVD drive unless you download the trial version from Apple’s website and then turn it into the full version by purchasing a serial number from the Apple Store (see Installing iWork ’09).
Finally, to update iWork, use iWork.com, or email documents, you’ll also need an Internet connection.
