Le chemin des partisans du low cost est parsemé d’embûches, qu’elles soient exogènes ou endogènes. Ils auront bien entendu des batailles externes à mener. Ils pourront s’attendre à une réaction de la part des acteurs traditionnels ainsi qu’à l’arrivée de nouveaux entrants low cost, qui essaieront de copier ou d’améliorer leur formule. Mais il n’est pire ennemi que soi-même. Il leur faudra donc se prémunir contre l’arrogance qui leur fera croire qu’ils ont trouvé la bonne recette ou la bonne cible et contre la complaisance qui les fera dériver vers l’embourgeoisement.
