Starting with VMware Horizon 7, it's possible to choose two different ways to deliver virtual desktop pools in a space-optimized way: using VMware Composer and Linked Clones technology (existing from several years), or using the VMware Instant Clones technology introduced in vSphere 6.0.
Both technologies share a virtual disk of a parent VM between multiple VMs and therefore consume less storage than full clone VMs. It's something like differential disks in other virtualization solutions. But instant clones (also called just-in-time VM delivery or VM Fork) are significantly faster than linked clones.
