So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

This chapter covers the implementation of equipment and systems for producing compressed digital television (DTV) bit streams in accordance with the original ATSC Digital Television standard [1]. In light of subsequently developed ATSC standards suites—called ATSC 2.0 and 3.0—the subjects covered in this chapter are now retrospectively referred to under the general title of “ATSC 1.0.” (Hereafter in this chapter, however, they are simply referred to as “ATSC.”)
