Introduction

Understanding how lightning works as well as its effects on tower structures, grounding, and antenna systems is very helpful when trying to apply protection techniques that are practical. In fact, lightning protection is never 100% perfect, and understanding the limitations or cost-effective application of protection is an important part of the design process.
