It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

What Is an Antenna?
An antenna is an essential component of any wireless communication system. Antennas are not as trendy as cameras or television sets, they do not have any attractive controls or colorful touch screens, but they are the most important part of the RF broadcast system.
The antenna provides three very important attributes to a broadcast system:
- The antenna acts like a matching transformer to maximize the power transmitted. It does this by matching the RF transmission line impedance with the intrinsic impedance of the air. The effectiveness of the impedance match is measured by the antenna VSWR.
