1.6 From Biology to the Artificial Neuron

The term neuron is actually motivated by a biological model and conceived according to this model: bionics is the name given to the scientific discipline that is responsible for the technical implementation of findings from biological systems and their analyses. The basic idea is a tried and tested approach: take a system from nature that has been optimized and developed over thousands of years and try to replicate it as closely as possible.

Just as the flight of birds encouraged mankind to fly, the Velcro fastener was invented based on the example of burdocks, or suction cups, which were copied from octopuses or beetles, neural networks are a good example from bionics. Take a (not necessarily human) ...
