Programming Neural Networks with Python
by Rheinwerk Publishing, Inc, Dr. Joachim Steinwendner, Dr. Roland Schwaiger
12.3 Summary
That’s it for the additional learning considerations. We’ve discussed the main categories of learning and implemented two algorithms for unsupervised and reinforcement learning. The implementations have shown possible applications of networks in Q-learning on the one hand and completely new learning strategies in self-organizing maps (SOMs) on the other.
The topic of SOMs in particular has shown that it’s very useful to know the development history of ANNs, as even the supposedly old approaches still have very useful aspects for current tasks. Now that we’re talking about areas of application, you should go straight on to the next chapter, in which we’ll introduce the practical side and areas of application of ANNs.
