For the frightened among you, we’ll show you the gradient descent in pictures in this section. This approach plays too central a role for us to simply acknowledge it by saying “that’s the way it is.”

6.2.1 Gradient Descent: The Concept

The basic concept of gradient descent is simple: find the direction in which the error decreases. Our aim is to present the concept and the algorithm of the gradient descent graphically to develop a picture for you and let it arise in your mind.
