Chapter Six. Lighting for DV

With one exception—video's relatively narrow contrast range—lighting for DV is very much like lighting for any other film or video shoot, posing similar technical challenges and offering similar creative opportunities. Good digital videographers employ the same time-tested techniques of lighting that served master cinematographers James Wong Howe and Rudolph Maté. Of course if you're shooting news style, you'll have to use the resources at hand, but you'll still get better results if you keep these film-style lighting principles in mind.
