Off-axis sound:

Weak audio signals emanating from outside a mic's pickup pattern. Chapter 7.

Off-mic:

Referring to a speaker who is off the axis of the microphone. Chapter 7.

Omnidirectional:

Type of microphone that picks up sound equally well from all directions. Chapter 7.

On call (O/C):

Cast or crew member assigned to work for the day but with no set call time. Chapter 9.

On speculation:

Practice of working (usually writing) for a producer with payment conditional on some future event or decision; writing a spec script; on spec. Chapter 8.

One-off:

Single, custom-made video copy (called a “dub”) of a tape or DVD, as opposed to multiple dubs made from a master tape or data file. Chapter 1.

Open face:

Movie light fixture with no focusing lens.
