The real world is unpredictable and many scientists would contend that reality itself is merely an illusion—a model that our brain derives from our senses. When we build typical applications, we try and enforce constraints on reality and force it to conform to the software’s view of the world. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t bend to our will, and, as you’ll see throughout this book, the more we embrace the real world and the less we try and contain it, the better off we are. The way we build applications that accept the notion that reality (or application state) is a derived model is through event sourcing.
