I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Evolving Aggregates
Aggregates can change over time without breaking any of the rules. As your application and your understanding of how customers use it changes, you’ll no doubt make changes to the internal workings of an aggregate.
These changes typically come in two forms:
- Change how it computes internal state
- Change the events emitted in response to commands
As with all evolutions, the timeline must be preserved. So, even though your aggregate may have changed in one or both of these ways, you cannot go back in time and reapply the new logic to old events. The following diagram shows time moving to the right. Note that the new aggregate has no power whatsoever over what happened before it was deployed.
