5.4.3 FMEA-RoI Correlation
The RoI of design rules depends on the failure modes the rules would prevent.
Adding a design rule to ensure manufacturability may improve yield, yet the
time to money may be longer than the time allocated for the new product devel-
opment. Three scenarios may affect the time-dependent cost of rule imple-
mentation for high-, medium-, and low-severity failure modes (Figure5.7):
• Scenario 1: (high severity) The new rule is required to ramp volume
