Diopter Adjustment
e diopter adjustment allows for manual adjustment of the optical viewfinder to best
suit your vision. When I was younger, I couldn’t have cared less about this feature. ese
days I’m very thankful for it, because it’s hard to look through optical viewfinders with
glasses on.
Direct Print
Direct Print is a standard developed in 2002 that enables a common printing protocol
between camera and printer, eliminating the need for a computer to produce prints.
Original adopters were Canon, Epson, Fujifilm, HP, Olympus, and Sony. Many consumer
cameras use an evolution of this technology called PictBridge (discussed later).
Display Control
You can turn off the LCD display to conserve battery power. is button often has
a third option that provides for the display of camera data on the screen while
composing the picture. You can typically cycle through these different settings by
pushing the button repeatedly. One useful display option is the live histogram. In
this mode, you get a graphical representation of the tonal values in the picture that
you’re composing, or have just captured, to help you evaluate its exposure. e his-
togram option is particularly handy when working in bright light that compromises
the image on the LCD.
