To use recovery software, first launch the application and then connect your memory

card. e software will scan your card and show you thumbnails of all the candidates

for recovery. You’ll be surprised what you see sometimes. In addition to shots you ac-

cidentally erased, you may see some “oldies” on the card that somehow haven’t been

overwritten yet. at’s why if you ever lose an image on your computer, you should try

to retrieve it from your memory card. You never know; it might be there.

Once you select the images you want to save, the software will download copies off the

card and write them to your computer. is process works well and is easy enough for

even first-timers.

You may have other tools available to you too, such as a software tester to report on

the integrity of the memory card. I’ve seen DVD-burning software included sometimes

that lets you transfer saved images directly to an optical disc. And if you really want

to wipe all data off a card so that it can’t be recovered, you can use the card formatter

sometimes available with recovery software.

e bottom line is to be prepared for accidents before they strike. Have image recovery

software loaded on your computer and have a memory card reader on hand. at way,

an erased picture won’t become a lost one.
