MANAGE MOVIES MADE WITH A DIGITAL CAMERA

TIP
If you’re using photo management software such as Adobe Lightroom or Apple Ap-
erture, you have the ability to rename files when you upload the files to the com-
puter from your camera. I recommend that you keep the file number as part of your
custom naming convention, such as europe_3298.jpg. is will help you keep track of
specific images regardless of whether they are backed up and stored in remote loca-
tions, or right there in your photo management software.
No matter which method you embrace, the important thing is to have an orderly sys-
tem and a regular backup routine. You already know how frustrating it is to look for an
old picture buried in a shoebox deep within your closet. Consider digital photography
your second chance in life, and take advantage of your computer’s ability to store and
retrieve information.
TIP
Mac users may want to investigate Time Machine, which is a component included
in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Time Machine enables users to set automatic backup
routines that write only new files or files that have changed. is could be useful for
photographers using the Mac platform. Also, for more information on managing
digital photographs, especially on a professional level, see e DAM Book: Digital As-
set Management for Photographers, by Peter Krogh (O’Reilly). ...
