Some universal, individual and interpersonal models
In this chapter we shall be looking in more depth at the physiology, psychology and interpersonal dynamics that underlie or accompany interpersonal conflict. The purpose of this exploration is to help understand something of the universality of conflict, the role of individual ‘maps’ of perception, the effects of change and stress in business life and the variety of manifestation and tactics that conflict can assume. Our exploration of these models is intended to help the mediator and the first-line conflict manager to better understand the dynamics of those in conflict and to avoid being drawn into negative attitudes or destructive behaviours.
