A personal experience

Many, many years ago, as a young man recently discharged from the army and more recently married, I accepted a job as editor of a small-town weekly newspaper. It was inevitable that I would be asked to make a talk. My first invitation to speak came from a women's club. It was a small group that met in a private home. That was fortunate, because I was able to speak sitting down. I don't think I could have stood, I was so frightened.
