210 Using IBM Application Development Tools for z/OS and OS/390
Here is the relevant information about each field:
Max Duration The maximum number of minutes for which Application Monitor can collect
information. Time is measured in real time. The shipped default is 90
minutes.
Max Samples The maximum number of samples that can be taken during an analysis
session. The default is 10000. If you are working on a relatively high usage
long running application, 10000 will be much too small a sample count. In a
quick try of profiling FBISTART, we were able to get 2000 samples in less
than a minute. After a bit of trial and error, we found that setting our samples
to about 10000 per minute that we would be running seemed to work well,
even on high CPU usage applications.
The information gathering and analysis of the selected job will end when either the Max
Duration or Max Samples limit is met.
The next three fields enable Application to collect extra information so more types of analysis
are available. If these fields are selected the information will be collected for every job that is
run. This may cause a significant bloat in the history file. Depending on your application
needs you may choose to collect or not collect this information. If this information is collected,
extra types of analysis will be possible. If DB2 activity analysis is requested an SSID must be
provided.
The bottom half of the page gives you your options to save this information as shown in
Figure 6-4. Selecting option 3 will save the updated defaults to your ISPF profile. If you do not
save the defaults to your profile, they will not be used.

Once the defaults have been saved as shown in Figure 6-5, the screen is updated with a
message and you can use F3 (END) or the X option to return to the Set Your Defaults Panel
as shown in Figure 6-6.
