Silence is golden—and never more so than when conflict arises. The old adage that recommends that you listen twice as much as you talk is absolutely true in tense circumstances.
When it comes to talking during conflict, take the less-is-more approach. This is particularly true if the other party is the boss, the office hothead, or someone with whom you don’t have rapport yet.
