Growing networks and the ability to connect multiple networks together created a need for a global network standard. Many different vendors developed specifications and products to support communication across many different types of networks. By far the most popular set of standards that today’s organizations use to communicate using networks is the TCP/IP suite. This suite takes its name from the two most common protocols at its core: Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP).
